Missouri could make millions more by leaving the Big 12 for SEC

If money is the driving factor on Missouri's future conference destination then moving to the Southeastern Conference will be a more attractive option than staying in the Big 12.

According to a document obtained by The Associated Press, the school stands to make as much as $12 million more in annual revenue by leaving the Big 12 for the SEC.

The report estimates Missouri could get $17.16 million in Big 12 television revenue in 2012, which would be approximately $2 million less than if it was in the SEC. It also projects as much as $12 million more each if the SEC renegotiates its premier broadcast rights.

Missouri announced earlier this month it would explore its conference options with speculation about a possibility it could leave and follow current Big 12 member Texas A&M to the SEC and become the 14th school in the league.

However, there is no indication that the league was considering Missouri. The SEC released a statement Monday following its meeting of school presidents and chancellors.

"The Presidents and Chancellors of the Southeastern Conference met on Monday for its regularly-scheduled fall meeting. While they discussed a wide range of issues dealing with the changing landscape of intercollegiate athletics, no actions were taken with regards to expansion."
