United's Jakovic returns for reserve game

D.C. United defender Dejan Jakovic, limited to just 15 games this season because of a pair of hamstring injuries, had hoped to return for the playoffs. Alas, United failed to qualify and so he extended his rehab.

Jakovic, a 26-year-old native of Croatia, did return to the field this week as a second-half sub for the United's reserve team. It was his first game action since Aug. 21.

?It feels great, I?ve been training with the team for two weeks,? he said via the league's website. ?My fitness is pretty much back -- it felt good to come out and play with the team.

?I think we have a great young team. We showed that we can play with anybody when we were healthy. I don?t know what?s going to happen, if the team?s going to change, but I?m happy with the group of guys we have right now.?
