(Reuters) - Buffalo goaltender Jhonas Enroth made 34 saves to allow the visiting Sabres to secure a 1-0 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday.
It is the second career shutout for Enroth and comes on the heels of his worst outing of the season on Wednesday where he was replaced against the New Jersey Devils after allowing five goals on 19 shots.
"It was good to come back after a game like that," Enroth told reporters. "When you play like that, you just want to get out there again.
"I'm glad I got the start right after that game."
Enroth was spectacular in the final two periods as the desperate Hurricanes outshot Buffalo 24-10.
Jason Pominville scored the only goal on a power play in the first period lifting a shot past Hurricanes goalie Brian Boucher, who made 19 saves.
"It wasn't a pretty win, but we played good enough with the lead to get it done," said Pominville.
"We're just happy to get out of here with the two points."
The Hurricanes, who were shutout by the Montreal Canadiens in their last game, have lost seven of their past eight games and are last in the Southeast Division.
"The zero on our side tonight and the zero on our side in Montreal are two completely different animals," Hurricanes coach Paul Maurice said.
"Putting the puck past the goalie wasn't there tonight, but everything else was. That was the best all-around team game we've played this year I think."
Carolina also missed the net on 21 other attempts on goal and the Sabres players helped Enroth by blocking 21 shots.
