Live blog: Nelson Cruz's homer ties game in seventh

7:07: Alexi Ogando was warming up in the fifth inning, but Ron Washington stuck with Scott Feldman, who was virtually untouchable over 4 1/3. Now the Rangers have their cadre of tough relievers lined up and in good position to go into extras if needed. Looks like Ogando will take over in the eighth.

7:06: Coke retires both lefties and Joaquin Benoit comes on to try and finish out the seventh for the Tigers. Once again, this will be a battle of the bullpens.

6:57: Nelson Cruz ties the game, hitting a 1-2 pitch from Scherzer off the facing of the second deck in left field for his second home run of the series. It's 3-3 and Scherzer's day is done. Phil Coke comes in to face lefties David Murphy and Mitch Moreland.

6:54: The Tigers get their best defensive team on the field as Don Kelly comes in for Delmon Young and takes over in right field. Ryan Raburn moves to left.

6:50: Brad Penny and Joaquin Benoit are warming in the Tiger bullpen. It seems like Penny is just getting some work in. It would be very unusual for Tigers manager Jim Leyland go to him in this situation. A more likely scenario is that Scherzer comes back out to start the seventh and Benoit could go up to two innings in relief if Scherzer gets into trouble.

6:46: This game looks a lot like Game 1 ... all runs scored early and lots of zeroes late. However this time, the 3-2 score is reversed.

6:44: Scherzer strikes out Adrian Beltre on a wicked slider and coaxes Mike Napoli to ground out to short. The Rangers fail to score after having their first two batters reach base.

6:37: Young lines out to right and is now hitless in his last 14 at-bats. However, Andrus moves to third with the tying run.

6:35: Michael Young comes to the plate. This could be Scherzer's last batter.

6:33: Josh Hamilton singles and that calls for a visit to the mound by Tigers pitching coach Jeff Jones.

6:31: Max Scherzer has his streak of retiring 12 Rangers batters in a row snapped with a leadoff walk in the sixth to Elvis Andrus. With his pitch count at 75, Phil Coke and Ryan Perry begin warming in the Tigers bullpen.

6:14: That's 6 2/3 scoreless innings in the series so far for the Rangers bullpen, which has allowed just one hit and is mostly rested thanks to yesterday's rainout.

6:01: After four of the first seven Rangers reached base, Tigers starter Max Scherzer has settled down nicely. He's retired the last nine Rangers in a row. Tigers still lead 3-2.

5:35: That's it for Derek Holland, who allows three runs, four hits and four walks on 76 pitches in 2 2/3 innings. He's replaced by right-hander Scott Feldman, the former starter who pitched three scoreless innings vs. the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 1 of the ALDS.

5:31: Ryan Raburn takes Derek Holland's 1-2 pitch and homers to left field to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead. The Tigers had been 0-for-4 with runner in scoring position before Raburn's at-bat.

5:26: Derek Holland's 1-2 pitch to Victor Martinez is in the dirt. Martinez says it hits him on the foot while Cabrera comes around from second to score as catcher Mike Napoli doesn't pick up the ball. The umpires get together and rule that Martinez was hit by the pitch and Cabrera has to go back to second. Tigers manager Jim Leyland comes out to argue, but it's still first and second with one out.

5:21: The Tigers get a runner into scoring position for the third inning in a row as Miguel Cabrera bangs a one-out double off of the right-center field wall.

5:04: The Tigers haven't scored and they've stranded five runners on base over the first two innings, but they are making Derek Holland throw a lot of pitches. Ryan Raburn, Brandon Inge and Austin Jackson draw walks in the top of the second. Holland's pitch count rises to 49 as Scott Feldman starts warming in the Texas bullpen. Holland gets Ramon Santiago to ground into a fielder's choice to end the inning.

4:50: Derek Holland pulled off a nice escape act in the first inning, but he's by no means out of the woods. During the season, he had his highest ERA in the third (5.70) and fourth (6.04) innings (min. five innings).

4:46: Adrian Beltre doubles into the right field corner to score Josh Hamilton and the Rangers have a 2-0 lead after the first inning.

4:42: Delmon Young's oblique injury may have helped contribute to the Rangers' first run of the game. With Elvis Andrus on first, Josh Hamilton hits a long fly to left-center, where Young can't make a play on it. In addition, he doesn't get very much on his throw to the cut-off man and Andrus scores all the way from first on Hamilton's double.

4:33: Just as they did in the series opener, the Tigers fail to come up with a big hit with runners in scoring position in the first inning. Austin Jackson and Ramon Santiago reached to start the game, but Derek Holland easily retires the heart of the order without the ball leaving the infield.

4:15: After bouncing the ceremonial first pitch past ex-Rangers catcher Jim Sundberg, Hall of Famer Ferguson Jenkins gets a do-over. Steee-rike. Fitting metaphor for Game 2.

4:07: There's no chance of a rainout here in Texas today. The sun is out and it's 72 degrees. The Tigers have activated outfielder Delmon Young and have him hitting in his customary No. 3 spot in the order against Rangers left-hander Derek Holland.
