Miami Dolphins team report: Larry Johnson added to backfield

When the Dolphins conducted a workout with Tiki Barber three weeks ago, it appeared Miami was willing to explore any possibilities to improve the team this offseason. On Tuesday, they proved it.

The team signed former Pro Bowl running back Larry Johnson, who has played in only 16 games during the last three seasons.

Johnson hasn?t come close to maintaining his success from 2005 and 2006?when he combined for 37 touchdowns?but the Dolphins aren?t looking for him to be ?the man.? Instead, after releasing Kory Sheets on the same day, Miami is simply looking for a reserve to round out the roster.

Johnson will be listed as the fourth running back behind Reggie Bush, Daniel Thomas and Lex Hilliard.

Botes: Coach Tony Sparano said left tackle Jake Long?s return to practice has been generally seamless since being taken off the physically unable to perform list Saturday. Tuesday marked his third practice back from an undisclosed injury. The only issue? ?Obviously we need to knock the rust off of him a little bit here and get him out there and take a few more plays.? In other words, don?t worry about the Dolphins? most valuable player. ? Jeff Darlington
