Scratch Blake Wheeler's arbitration hearing from the NHL's docket. The Winnipeg Jets announced Monday that they had cut a deal with the 24-year-old right winger.
Wheeler was among 22 players scheduled to go before an arbiter in hearings that begin July 20. His date was Aug. 3.
The deals is for two years at $5.1 million. Wheeler was paid $2.2 million last season.
Acquired on Feb. 28, 2011, from the Boston Bruins, Wheeler has appeared in 244 NHL games, with 57 goals and 70 assists. He was the fifth overall pick of the 2004 Draft, selected by the Phoenix Coyotes, but opted not to sign with them. Instead, he attended the University of Minnesota before signing an entry-level contract with the Bruins in 2008.
Wheeler had seven goals and 10 assists in 23 games last season when the Jets franchise was the Atlanta Thrashers.
Last week, the Jets signed journeyman left winger Jason Jaffray to a one-year, two-way deal. Jaffray was an unrestricted free agent who played in Winnipeg for the Vancouver Canucks' AHL affiliate last season.
The team also locked up center Ben Maxwell, 23, a restricted free agent who has appeared in 23 NHL games.
