It was reported over the weekend that New England Patriots linebacker Tully Banta-Cain, coming off Friday surgery on a strained abdominal muscle, would need four to five weeks of recovery time. He won't be, however, missing that time for New England.
According to ESPN, the Patriots have already told Banta-Cain he will be released on Thursday. Banta-Cain, who will be 31 before his ninth NFL starts, was the Patriots' leading pass rusher the past two seasons with 15 total sacks.
He should draw some interest from similar 3-4 teams, including the other three AFC East clubs: the Bills, Dolphins and Jets.
