There was a lot to digest from a wild first week of the season.
Fans who didn't know him got introduced to Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III on opening night. They saw Oregon again can't handle an elite SEC defense.
Boise State continues to be Boise State and knock off teams with more physical talent. Auburn won't be the same Auburn without Cam Newton. But the Tigers do find a way to win.
Rain was the victor in two games, stopping Michigan and West Virginia wins before four full quarters. Notre Dame played an entire 60 minutes, and the Irish made enough mistakes to last an entire season.
And the top two teams - Oklahoma and Alabama - showed they're deserving of their rankings.
While the Sooners take the week off, the Crimson Tide play in the week's top matchup when they travel to Penn State. It will be a good test for Nick Saban's team, especially an offense that is still a work in progress.
The road isn't any easier for Auburn, which must host Mississippi State in the start of SEC play. Missouri travels to Arizona State in the other matchup of ranked opponents in a rare late Friday night start thanks to Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott. He also has a few other things on his plate this week.
The final marquee game is in Athens, where Georgia gets a visit from South Carolina. A loss by the 0-1 Bulldogs may be difficult for fans and Mark Richt to digest with the coach's hot seat already feeling toasty.

No. 2 Alabama at No. 20 Penn State, 3:30 p.m.
In a game where the defenses of both teams are better than their offenses, there is pressure on the quarterbacks to avoid mistakes. That is one area that the Nittany Lions have an advantage in experience. Alabama 20, Penn State 17.
No. 3 LSU vs. Northwestern State, 8 p.m.
The Tigers go from playing one of the toughest games last week to one of the easiest. LSU 42, Northwestern State 3.
No. 4 Florida State vs. Charleston Southern, 6 p.m.
Oklahoma is idle. The Seminoles may just as well be with this matchup. Sets up for a great game next week in Tallahassee. Florida State 45, Charleston Southern 0.
No. 6 Stanford at Duke, 3:30 p.m.
Two smart schools. Both were great basketball schools. Now one is a great football school. Stanford 44, Duke 17.
No. 7 Oklahoma State vs. Arizona, 8 p.m. (Thursday)
These teams met eight months ago in the Alamo Bowl. Cowboys won that game 36-10. Should be closer this time around. Oklahoma State 30, Arizona 20.
No. 9 Wisconsin vs. Oregon State, noon
Crazy as it might seem, the Badgers need to be wary of being overconfident after the Beavers lost last week to Sacramento State. Wisconsin 34, Oregon State 19.
No. 10 Nebraska vs. Fresno State, 7 p.m.
Taylor Martinez looked like the quarterback he was in the first half of last season with 135 yards and three touchdowns rushing in the opener. Nebraska 40, Fresno State 20.
No. 11 Virginia Tech at East Carolina, 3:30 p.m.
A good test for Hokies quarterback Logan Thomas, who will be making his first start on the road in a tough environment. Virginia Tech 31, East Carolina 23.
No. 12 South Carolina at Georgia, 4:30 p.m.
Hard to believe, but the Bulldogs are already facing a do-or-die game in Week 2. That's the reality with Mark Richt's job hanging in the balance. Georgia 27, South Carolina 24.
No. 13 Arkansas vs. New Mexico, 7 p.m.
Joe Adams already making an early run at being the nation's top punt return after two touchdowns against Missouri State. Arkansas 38, New Mexico 13.
No. 14 Oregon vs. Nevada, 3:30 p.m.
We should see the Ducks offense get on track this week at home against a team not in the SEC. If not, it is time to worry about how good they are. Oregon 44, Nevada 21.
No. 15 Ohio State vs. Toledo, noon
It couldn't have been a much better debut for Luck Fickell. Now his team gets a final tune up before a trip to Miami next week. Ohio State 42, Toledo 14.
No. 16 Michigan State vs. Florida Atlantic, noon
After playing at Florida, the Spartans are just the second step of a rough three-game start for the Owls, who travel to Auburn next week. Michigan State 31, Florida Atlantic 10.
No. 17 Mississippi State at No. 22 Auburn, 12:20 p.m.
He may not be Cam Newton, but Barrett Trotter produced a dramatic comeback for the Tigers that looked like some of the rallies his predecessor led last year. One problem this week. The Bulldogs are not Utah State. Mississippi State 30, Auburn 26.
No. 18 Florida vs. UAB, 7 p.m.
Give some credit to Charlie Weis. John Brantley looked better in the opener than any time last season in Urban Meyer's offense. Florida 38, UAB 10.
No. 19 Missouri at No. 23 Arizona State, 10:30 p.m. (Friday)
A good test for both teams to see how good they really are. The Tigers offense was inconsistent with new quarterback James Franklin against Miami (Ohio). It needs to improve because the Sun Devils are going to score points. Arizona State 28, Missouri 23.
No. 21 Texas vs. BYU, 7 p.m.
If you just looked at the final score, the Longhorns didn't look so bad against Rice. There still are a lot of unanswered questions, however, and the Cougars will provide some more clarity. Texas 23, Brigham Young 20.
No. 24 West Virginia vs. Norfolk State, 1 p.m.
This should provide a better opportunity to see how Dana Holgorsen's offense will run if it stays dry in Morgantown this weekend. West Virginia 49, Norfolk State 9.
No. 25 TCU at Air Force, 3:30 p.m.
The Horned Frogs must rebound quickly, while making the adjustment from playing against Baylor's spread to the option attack of the Falcons. No easy task. Air Force 30, TCU 28.
