The public will have the opportunity to purchase the distinctive uniform worn by Maryland in the school's opening game against Miami.
Citing overwhelming demand, the school announced Thursday that 10 jerseys and 10 helmets from its Maryland Pride collection will be available through auction on its website. Previously, the school said the jerseys would not be available. Proceeds will benefit Maryland Athletics
The bidding, which starts at $500 for each helmet and $200 for each jersey, will begin Friday and run through Sept. 19.
The Terrapins uniforms drew strong reaction because of their distinctive look. The helmet and jersey encorporated the red, black and yellow colors of the Maryland state flag.
The helmets, which were black and yellow on one side and red and white on the other resembled the helmets worn by a roller derby team in Baltimore.
"This is our pride uniform -- Maryland pride," Terrapins coach Randy Edsall told ESPN. "This is part of the new branding we're doing here. We want to incorporate the state colors and let everyone know we are playing for everyone in the state."
