Tampa Bay Buccaneers team reports: Tanard Jackson eligible for reinstatement

Safety Tanard Jackson, who was suspended indefinitely for a third violation of the NFL?s substance abuse policy, becomes eligible for reinstatement today.

Whether he?ll actually be reinstatement and return to the team is hard to know. No one with the Bucs, the league or in Jackson?s camp has commented on the matter, which has been left solely in the hands of Commissioner Roger Goodell.

Jackson was one of the Bucs top players when he was lost last year, a player whom Eagles coach Andy Reid referred to as All-Pro caliber.

A year later, though, the Bucs seem to have moved on. They are extremely happy with the play of second-year pro Cody Grimm, who relies mostly on smart and instincts to get the job done. At 5-11 and 210 pounds, Grimm isn?t imposing physically, but he?s a fundamentally sound players who ?is always in position,?? according to Falcons WR Roddy White.

The Bucs could certainly use the added depth that a player of Jackson?s ability would bring, but it?s unlikely he?d unseat Grimm as the team?s starting FS should he come back.

Notes: The team appears to have found another hidden gem in WR Preston Parker. Parker, whom the Bucs signed as an undrafted free agent in 2010, ranks second on the team in receptions with 10 and is coming off a big game a week ago against the Vikings in which he caught six balls for 98 yards. Parker has taken over as the team?s lead slot receiver, and his ability to make big yards after the catch could keep him there even after Sammie Stroughter returns from his foot injury.
