RB Tiki Barber to end four-year NFL retirement
After a four-season hiatus, former Giants RB Tiki Barber is apparently ending his retirement.
His agent, Mark Lepselter, tweeted: "Tiki Barber has filed the papers with the NFL to officially come out of retirement."
Barber, whose twin brother Ronde Barber is set to enter his 15th season as a cornerback with the Buccaneers, exceeded 2,000 yards from scrimmage in each of his final three years.
"After seeing my brother still have fun at our age, it reignited the fire. I'm really looking forward to the challenge of seeing if I can get back to the level of where I was," Tiki Barber told FOXSports.com.
"I started working out again recently. It kind of shocked myself. I still had a lot of the strength I had before. I'm really looking forward to making a return."
Barber, who will be 36 next month, is the Giants' all-time leading rusher (10,449 yards in 10 seasons). However he was critical of QB Eli Manning following his retirement; Manning subsequently won Super Bowl XLII MVP honors in the Giants' first post-Barber season.
"There are interested parties," Lepselter told Fox.
The Giants are not one of them, though. They plan to release Barber to free agency as soon as a new CBA is reached and player transactions resume.
"We wish Tiki nothing but the best, and when we are able to make the transaction, we will release him from our reserve/retired list," said Giants spokesman Pat Hanlon.
Barber had a public split with his wife and was also let go by NBC last year, though he's continued doing work for other media outlets.
