Lawrence Taylor sentenced to probation, but no jail time
Pro Football Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor was sentenced to six years probation in New York on Tuesday for his guilty plea to a sexual misconduct charge.
Taylor admitted in January to having sex with an underage girl who had been prostituted to him.
He will have to register as a sex offender. A New York court will hold a hearing on April 12 to determine what level registry to assign to Taylor.
The victim, whose name USA TODAY will not reveal, appeared in court and hoped to make a statement. Attorney Gloria Allred appeared with her.
VICTIM SPEAKS: Says Taylor should have gone to jail
The judge did not allow a victim statement, however, because he said they are not permitted for misdemeanor convictions.
Taylor was arrested last May and maintained that the girl told him she was 19 years old. He admitted to paying her $300.
The girl, then 16, was a runaway.
Prosecutor Arthur Ferraro said Taylor's deal without jail time was facilitated in part because he provided information "in the field of human trafficking in several jurisdictions and with federal authorities."
