Tiger Woods reveres loyalty in the team of people who manage his business affairs. There are few people more loyal to Woods than his agent Mark Steinberg, who has managed Woods? affairs for a dozen years. But when it was announced that Steinberg was leaving IMG, there may have been a shred of doubt as to Woods? allegiance. Even that shred was probably overzealous.
On Monday, Woods announced on Twitter that he would remain with Steinberg and end his relationship with IMG.
?Staying with Mark Steinberg. Total confidence in him. Excited about the next stage in my professional life. Fond memories of Mark McCormack,? he said.
Steinberg has not formally announced his next move since his contract ended with IMG on June 1. A report suggested Steinberg was not making IMG enough money from Woods? endeavors to cover the $3 million salary paid to Steinberg. That seems unlikely considering Woods? $75 million in estimated earnings.
Woods? reference to IMG founder Mark McCormack is somewhat meaningful. McCormack passed away in May 2003. Ted Forstmann acquired the agency in 2004. The relationship between Forstmann and Woods was never the same compared to what Woods enjoyed with McCormack.
