Former Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl will challenge violation

Former Tennessee basketball coaches plan to challenge at least one of the three major violations levied against the program.

Former coach Bruce Pearl and associate head coach Tony Jones both plan to testify Saturday in Indianapolis before the NCAA Committee on Infractions.

The program is challenging the "bump" Pearl and Jones had with former recruit Jordan Adams, according to ESPN. Both claim the contact with Adams was incidental and inconsequential and shouldn't be considered a major violation.

The coaches reportedly do not plan to challenge the charges for excessive phone calls to recruits. The other charge revolves around Pearl's hosting recruits at a barbecue at his home, and the coaches' subsequent lying about the cookout.

Pearl and Jones plus former assistants Steve Forbes and Jason Shay all plan to attend the hearing. Former athletic director Mike Hamilton, who resigned on Tuesday, and new coach Cuonzo Martin also plan to be on hand.
