Ex-Lamar coach Roccaforte lands on South Florida staff

Former Lamar head coach Steve Roccaforte has accepted an assistant coaching position at South Florida, filling the spot on Stan Heath's staff previously occupied by Jeremy Cox.

Roccaforte spent eight seasons at Lamar, including five as head coach and three seasons before that as an assistant under Billy Tubbs. Roccaforte compiled a 76-78 record as head coach, including 13-17 his final year, before being dismissed.

Roccaforte's past experience includes stints on John Calipari's staff at Memphis and under Perry Clark at Tulane.

The USF position opened when Cox was hired away by Nebraska coach Doc Sadler.

"I'm very excited to work for Stan Heath," Roccaforte said in a statement. "He is on the verge of something very big at USF, and I am happy to be a part of that while also joining the best basketball league in the country."
