Normally we don?t really deal with players at the Div. 1-AA level ? unless it?s to note they?re transferring there ? but, when it involves a yes-that-Montana spawn, we?ll make an exception.
Nate Montana, who transferred from Notre Dame to Montana earlier this year, has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. The Associated Press reports that the son of Hall of Famer and former Irish starJoe Montana was arrested shortly after 4 a.m. local time in Missoula.
There was no reason given for the initial stop that led to the arrest and charge.
Montana (the player, not the school) was one of six quarterbacks on the Irish?s roster a couple of months ahead of spring practice this year. With Dayne CristandTommy Reesthe presumed front-runners for the starting job, and with high hopes for youngstersAndrew Hendrix andLuke Massa, Montana decided to take the path of least resistance as far as playing time is concerned and moved on to the Grizzlies this past February.
In three games last season, Montana completed 50 percent of his passes for 116 yards and an interception. He will be eligible to play immediately in 2011 and is expected to challenge for the starting job.
