After the Sixers were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Heat, guard Andre Iguodala seemed to indicate that his time in Philadelphia might not last much longer.
?I expect to be back in the NBA,? Iguodala said at the time. ?It?s always been a dream of mine to play ball. This has been a great ride so far, not just with the Sixers, just playing basketball in general. I'm really looking forward to getting some rest this summer, just letting my body recuperate and get back to 100 percent, and I'm really looking forward to next year being my best year in the league.?
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Iguodala?s uncertainty is well-founded. The paper reports that Iguodala has made no formal request for a trade, but that the team will look to move him this summer anyway and focus its building efforts around Jrue Holiday, Evan Turner, Thaddeus Young, Jodie Meeks and Lou Williams.
Trading Iguodala will be easier said than done, though. He has an excellent reputation as a defender, but his offense is spotty, particularly his shooting, and for a guy being paid a max contract, that deficiency is a bit much for other front office executives to overlook. Iguodala has four years and $56 million remaining on his contract.
