NEW YORK (AP) � Derek Jeter�(FSY) tied the score with a two-run single that sparked an eight-run rally in the seventh inning, Alex Rodriguez�(FSY) drove in the go-ahead run with yet another hit after an intentional walk to Mark Teixeira�(FSY) and the New York Yankees pummeled the New York Mets 9-3 Sunday in the finale of their weekend Subway Series.

In a slump for most of the season, Jeter hit a two-run, bases-loaded single off Mike Pelfrey�(FSY) (3-4) that made it 3-all ? just the second time since Aug. 11 that Jeter tied the score or put the Yankees ahead from the seventh inning on.
Tim Byrdak�(FSY) relieved, Curtis Granderson�(FSY) sacrificed and the Mets walked Teixeira, a move that usually backfires when A-Rod is up next.
This time was no different.
Pedro Beato�(FSY) came in, and Rodriguez hit a 60-foot roller toward third that left Willie Harris�(FSY) with no play as Brett Gardner�(FSY) sprinted home. A-Rod is 7 for 13 (.538) with three homers and 23 RBIs in 18 career plate appearances following intentional walks, including 6 for 8 with 19 RBIs following intentional walks to Teixeira.
Robinson Cano's�(FSY) single made it 5-3 and, after Jorge Posada�(FSY) took a called third strike, Gardner hit a two-run double off Pat Misch�(FSY). Chris Dickerson�(FSY), starting in place of slumping right fielder Nick Swisher�(FSY), blooped a two-run single to left that capped the Yankees' biggest inning of the season.
Gardner's single had started the big seventh, Dickerson walked and Francisco Cervelli�(FSY) was hit on a shoulder with a pitch when he squared to bunt.
Jeter, who had been 3 for 24 this year with runners in scoring position and less than two outs, grounded the next pitch up the middle. The two hits raised his average to .268 and left him 25 hits shy of 3,000.
Luis Ayala�(FSY) (1-0) got four outs to win in relief of Ivan Nova�(FSY), Ayala's first major league victory since April 7, 2009, for Minnesota against Seattle. The Yankees took two of three from their crosstown rival, moving back into the AL East lead.
Since interleague play began, the Yankees have won 11 of 13 series against the Mets in the Bronx.
Pelfrey gave up five runs and eight hits in six-plus innings. Nova allowed three runs and 11 hits ? 10 of them singles ? in 6 2-3 innings.
Granderson homered in the first, and Posada and Gardner hit long drives down the right-field line that were just foul in the early innings. With 16 homers, Granderson is second in the major leagues to Toronto's Jose Bautista�(FSY).
While the Yankees succeed or fail by the home run, the Mets used small ball to take a 3-1 lead in the second, with Willie Harris and Jason Pridie�(FSY) hitting run-scoring singles around Ronny Paulino's�(FSY) RBI comebacker.
NOTES:�Since a tying single in the ninth at Texas on Aug. 11, Jeter's only other tying or go-ahead hit from the seventh on was a leadoff home in the seventh at Texas on May 8 that put New York ahead 5-4, according to STATS LLC. ... Swisher is in a 16-for-90 (.178) slide. Paulino took over at catcher for the Mets from Josh Thole�(FSY), in a 10-for-65 (.154) slump. Mets manager Terry Collins said Paulino will start the next few games.
