Mississippi State undecided on starting quarterback

Mississippi State is currently dealing with something South Carolina already has this season?quarterback questions. While the Gamecocks settled theirs this week by dismissing Stephen Garcia, the Bulldogs still have questions on who will start this Saturday against USC.

Incumbent starter Chris Relf was benched last week at halftime of the UAB game, a contest that saw Mississippi State down 3-0 to the Blazers after the first 30 minutes. Backup Tyler Russell came into the game and completed 11 of 13 passes for 166 yards and three touchdowns as the Bulldogs won 21-3.

Coach Dan Mullen, on the SEC coaches teleconference, did nothing to clear the matter. Dylan Favre, the nephew of NFL great Brett Favre, also has seen playing time, albeit sparingly.

?They?re all working hard, they?re all playing well,? Mullen said, per The Clarion-Ledger of Jackson, Miss. ?When we decide a starter, we?re going to go with (the one) who gives us the best opportunity to win the game. If it?s one quarterback, we?ll go with one; if it?s two, we?ll go with two; if it?s three, we?ll go with three.?
