Houston Texans team report: Arian Foster derides his 'terrible' performance

HOUSTON?After Sunday?s 29-14 loss at Baltimore, running back Arian Foster called his performance ?terrible? and vowed to not let it happen again. He had been limited to 49 yards on 15 carries.

Foster averaged 3.3 yards a carry. Ben Tate averaged 4.6.

Some fans want Tate over Foster in the game against Tennessee for first place in the AFC South. No way, say the coaches. They still have confidence in Foster, who has battled hamstring injuries. He showed what he could do in a victory over Pittsburgh in which he ran for 155 of the team?s 180 yards.

The running game has been shut down against Oakland and Baltimore because receiver Andre Johnson (hamstring) and fullback James Casey (chest) didn?t play. They expect the Titans to play an eight-man front until the Texans force them out of it.

Coach Gary Kubiak said he thinks Foster could be ?pressing? because the Texans have struggled to run effectively. Kubiak told Foster to relax, stay positive and the yards will come.

Notes: The Texans and Titans have never played for first place in the AFC South. That?s one reason Sunday?s game at Tennessee is important. Receiver Derrick Mason spent his first eight seasons playing for the Titans and his next six for the Ravens, sometimes playing against Tennessee. ?It?s going to be strange not seeing coach (Jeff) Fisher on the sideline,? Mason said. The trademark of Titans teams, according to Mason, is to play hard and be physical until the whistle. Mason had three catches, two for first downs, in his Houston debut. The coaches want to get him the ball more against the Titans.
