Orioles pitcher Jeremy Guthrie, fresh off a 9-17 season with a 4.33 ERA, does not expect to be offered a multi-year deal this off-season.
Guthrie is arbitration-eligible this off-season and will be a free agent after the 201 season. He says that the team has not approached him about a multi-year deal. Last winter, Guthrie and his agent approached the team about an extension but the club was not interested then.
?We asked them if they were interested in exploring the option of a multi-year contract (last winter) and they politely said no,? Guthrie told MASNsports.com. ?I think, if there is any interest, they would express it, otherwise we would just assume they stand where they stood before.?
Guthrie is not disappointed that he has to go year-to-year, contract wise. The 32-year-old understands it part of the business of the game.
?I think any multi-year contract is a great blessing and you have to be very fortunate to get to that point in your career. So, if it ever happens for me, I?ll be happy, but it?s not something I take offensively because it hasn?t happened. It doesn?t affect the way I feel.
This past season, Guthrie earned $5.75 million.
