Astros, Marlins play beanball two days after Ramirez injured

Apr 10, 2011

Two days after Bill Hall's hard slide into Hanley Ramirez, the Marlins' Edward Mujica hit Hall with a pitch Sunday in the seventh inning of the Astros' 7-1 win.

Then, in the ninth inning Sunday, the Astros' Aneury Rodriguez hit the Marlins' Gaby Sanchez, batting .375 entering the game. Both pitchers were ejected.

The Astros were ahead 6-1 when Hall was drilled and 7-1 when Sanchez was beaned. Perhaps that explains why the retaliation took so long, as the teams played tight games -- won 4-3 and 7-5 by the Marlins -- Friday and Saturday.

Ramirez said Friday, after he spent a few minutes on the ground in pain and got helped off the field, that Hall's play was clean.

"My opinion is, he was trying to break up the double play," Ramirez said, according to the Miami Herald. "He was trying to do his job, trying to break up the double play."

Ramirez also tweeted Sunday to say he'd return Tuesday.
