Rob Dibble thinks Stephen Strasburg's dad cost him his job

Apr 07, 2011

Rob Dibble says he believes an e-mail from the father of Washington Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg is the reason Dibble is not on Nationals telecasts.

"His father e-mailed the owner and the owner wanted me out of there. That's the bottom line," Dibble said in a video interview on FoxSports.com.

Dibble said last August that Strasburg needed to "suck it up" after he removed himself from a game because of elbow discomfort. It turned out Strasburg needed Tommy John surgery, from which he is currently rehabbing.

Dibble, who hosts a show on Sirius radio, was taken off the Nationals games on the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network before last season ended and the analyst job was given to former player F.P. Santangelo this year.

In case anyone is expecting Santangelo to be a homer -- he spent four seasons with the franchise when it was in Montreal -- he pointed out this spring that you'll never hear him refer to the team as "we," as Dibble commonly did.
